Jihadist get life sentence in Tunisia

A Tunisian court has sentenced seven jihadists to life in prison over attacks at a museum and on a beach in 2015 that killed 60 people, many of them British tourists, prosecutors said on Saturday. Dozens of defendants faced two separate trials over the closely linked shootings, which occurred just months apart in Tunis and Sousse, but many were acquitted. Four were sentenced to life in prison for the shooting rampage at a Sousse tourist resort in June 2015, which killed 38 people, mostly British tourists.

Manchester United planning contract announcement soon.

Manchester United could announce Ashley Young's contract renewal before the Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain. The MEN reported last week Young, 33, was expected to sign a new one-year contract, having entered the last five months of his current contract. Sources close to the deal say United could confirm Young's extension on Monday, possibly before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's pre-match press conference. Young is poised to become the fifth United player to ink new terms in the last two months. Chris Smalling, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and Phil Jones have all received new contracts and Luke Shaw also committed his long-term future to United in October. United have also opened dialogue with Marcus Rashford about an improved deal.

NECO releases Nov/DEC 2018 examination results

The National Examinations Council has released the result of the 2018 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination for external candidates. The Acting Registrar, NECO, Mr. Abubakar Gana, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday. According to Gana, 59,963 candidates registered for the examination and were examined in about 28 subject areas. He noted that a total of 37,069 candidates representing 62.48 per cent got five credits and above, including English and Mathematics; while 47,031 candidates, representing 79.27 per cent got five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics. While giving further breakdown of the performance of candidates, he said that 57,842 sat for English Language out of which 44,497, representing 76.93 got either distinction or credit. He added that 57,275 sat for Mathematics, out of which 47,151 representing 82.32 per cent got either distinction or credit. “A comparative analysis of candidates, who scored five credits...

Three Suspects arrested for inserting pepper inside a female private part.

Not less than three suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command in a viral video in which one Miss Favour Ada was stripped and tortured for alleged phone theft.The iphone  is said to be  worth over N400,000 at Ugbiyoko, a suburb of Benin. The lady was stripped unclad and tortured before pepper was inserted in her private part.The victim was seriously injured as a result of the attack.She is now recuperating at the intensive unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. All efforts to speak with the Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, failed, as he was said to be in Abuja with the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu on an official assignment.

Supreme Court Upholds APC Rivers Nullification

The Supreme court have upheld the Nullification of Rivers APC Primaries. Delivering the judgement  by Justice Mohammed Dattijo  who head the five man panel Justices in Abuja, overruled the objection led by the Tonye Cole faction of the APC that it had earlier withdrawn from the appeal against the court ruling. The APC in Rivers had earlier been disqualified by INEC from taking part in the governorship election over the Crisis rocking the state chapter of the APC.

Why we’ve extended PVC collection deadline to Monday – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu  said the commission arrived at the decision to extend the deadline following appeals by Nigerians for a review of the collection process.He  disclosed this Friday in Abuja at a meeting with the states Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs to review the level of the commission’s preparedness for next Saturday’s polls. “In the last couple of days, we have been inundated by calls from Nigerians to review the current process of collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards. In response, the Commission has taken the following decisions: “The collection of PVCs scheduled to end today Friday 8th February 2019 is hereby extended nationwide to Monday 11th February 2019. This will include Saturday and Sunday. The collection of PVCs will now take place from 9am to 6pm daily. “All State offices are hereby directed to review the procedure for the collection of PVCs and dedicate all the staff of the Local Governm...
